Our work

Since 1978, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands have been cooperating to protect the Wadden Sea as an ecological entity. The Guiding Principle of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation is to

“achieve, as far as possible, a natural and sustainable ecosystem in which natural processes proceed in an undisturbed way”.

To attain this goal, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands have created a common ground of harmonised protection as well as management and policy, ensuring the integrity of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site now and in the future. The respective goals of the TWSC are manifested in the Wadden Sea Plan, which is a key tool for policy and management. The SIMP Integrated Management Plan for One Wadden Sea World Heritage (SIMP) complements the Wadden Sea Plan and supports the continuous improvement of coordinated management for the conservation of the Outstanding Universal Value of the Site.
